Super Convict
[[Introductions are in order.]]There is no explanation for how you got here. The character is unable to be controlled at this point. The only thing the player can do is [[see through the character's eyes]] in first person point of view. The confines of this pod are cushioned on all sides, to the point that you can't really lift your arms easily. Your head is stuck facing one of the few light sources in the holding bay. There is a rumble of large engines all around you, humming endlessly in the faint light. Over this droning you can hear muffled voices, but it is difficult to make out what they are saying. [[Peek through the small viewing port.]] [[“Hello? Is anyone out there?”]] [[Wait. Don’t let anyone know you’re awake.->Wait]]Through the small viewing port, you can see several armed guards stationed throughout the hold. They are all covered in green, heavy-duty armor, it reminds you of space marines or robots. Doesn't help that their faces are hidden behind yellow face shields. Each one is armed with some kind of rifle; they look like the inevitable offspring of an assault rifle and a shotgun, the kind of gun that says, “there are no warning shots.” Suddenly, one of the guards passes by your pod. It slowly turns towards your viewing port, its lambent yellow face glowing as the helmet blocks out the last remaining source of light. [[Freeze.]] “Hello? Is anyone out there?” There are more voices now, from your sides and behind you. They are all muffled, you can't quite make out anything they are saying. You can hear two of the voices clearer than the others: One sounds like an older man with a deep, tired voice singing: “When I was just a baby My Mama told me, "Son Always be a good boy Don't ever play with guns, " But I shot a man in Reno Just to watch him die When I hear that whistle blowin' I hang my head and cry” You think you recognize it as Johnny Cash's Folsom City Blues. How would you know that? Are you going to prison? Why can't you remember anything? The other voice is much more shrill, maybe a woman's voice. “Pipe down, some of us are trying to sleep you old fart!” Doesn't she sound charming. [[Wait. Keep quiet.->Wait]]You freeze, (not that you could move much anyways) until the silent guard slowly [[moves on->Wait]].You feel the world shudder for a moment; a sudden shift in momentum causes you to shift back and forth in the confines of your pod. A bright light comes searing in from outside your vision. Your pod jerks slightly as it is removed from its locked position. The world suddenly tilts as you find yourself slowly being wheeled out on a dolly. When your eyes finally adjust to the lights overhead, you find yourself in a massive hangar. It feels like an eternity before your pod rights itself with a gentle thud and the [[seals come undone]].Your arms and legs feel like lead and you stumble slightly. A pair of guards flank you and place a pair of braces on your arms, lock them behind your back, and begin walking/dragging you towards the doors at the end of the hall. The braces are somewhat metallic with symbols running up and down their length. They extend from just below your wrists to slightly below your elbows. As you look around you can see other people being handled the same way. They vary in appearance and age, but the guards don't seem to treat any person more gently than another. [[Look over your shoulder.]] [[“Augh! Hey! Who are you?"]]As you look over your shoulder, you see the light of freedom slowly disappearing as the massive blast doors grind closed. You can see a pair of massive cannons on either side of the entrance, but it seems odd that they are not aiming outwards, they are aimed inwards towards the doors you are heading towards. The guards take you to a pair of doors off to the side, from the larger hallway at the end of the hangar. You notice that there is the symbol for male over the door on the right and the symbol for female on the left. [[The guards take you right.->Changing Room]] [[The guards take you left.->Changing Room]]The guards escort you into a large locker room. Multiple benches rest in the center of the room, dividing it in half. One of the guards slides a large key card along a groove between your restraints. The braces separate, but each one remains firmly enclosed around your forearms. The guard hands you a gray plastic tub and a stack of orange scrubs, undershirts, and underwear. “This is your prison uniform, change into it. You will have three sets. If you lose one, another will be prepared for you. Wearing any other form of clothing while here will result in penalties.” As the guard finishes, several other inmates enter. Each one is bound in a manner similar to yours. The guard moves on to begin handing out uniforms to the other inmates, leaving you alone. You notice a mirror and begin to check to see if you can recognize your own face. [Players may now [[customize their character's appearance.]] ]As the last of the prisoners change into their uniforms, the guards reconnect your wrists and escort you all through a long corridor lined with thick glass on one side and height markers on the opposing wall. Looks like it's time for your mugshot. Numerous guards and desk monkeys are making notes as one by one the inmates are scanned, photographed, and registered in the system. As your turn comes around the guards stand you up against the wall. “Inmate 14.5.23, name unknown. Special abilities include...” [Players may now select from an assortment of powers and [[build their character attributes.]]]A group of guards escort you and several other inmates into a large elevator. The doors hiss closed and the elevator begins its rapid descent into the depths of the mountain. A cheerful man's voice rings out from a nearby intercom: “Welcome to the Buckner Ridge Superhuman Penitentiary, or Lockdown as it is more commonly known. You will be escorted to your respective wards where an inmate mentor will explain the rules of the facilities and introduce you to your new home. We hope you [[enjoy your stay.]]”A picture of the tiers and wards is posted on the door but is unlabeled. A few floors and several exits later, the doors open and the guards escort you into a large, triangular cell-block. The block consists of two floors with stairs leading to the upper floor along the far side. Numerous cells line the walls, each slightly different from the rest. Some are lined with arcane symbols, others are made of odd materials, but most are constructed of a featureless, white, thermal plastic. You notice in the place of cells, some walls are closed off by blast doors. The air tingles with energy, temperatures fluctuate wildly, and you can sometimes see sparks race through the air as the various restraints collide. Your small group of inmates is [[greeted by a plain faced inmate in his mid-thirties]].Your small group of inmates is greeted by a plain faced inmate in his mid-thirties. His graying brown hair is a bit messy in a few places, though slightly parted on one side. He has an almost unbearably sunny disposition glowing in his gray eyes. His warm smile and posture indicate a man who has grown accustomed to a life without conflict. A gentle serenity that is somewhat out of place in under the looming watch of the guards [[stationed throughout the cell-block]].“Hellooo everyone! I am your wardboss Emil Graystone, and I will here to answer all your questions in order to help you during your stay here in Lockdown. Meals will be held at 9am, 2pm, and 7pm. Lights are out at 10pm, unless you are on the job cleaning the prison, you are not permitted to access any ward but this one. You can seek employment by contacting administration. During your free time, you may stay here in the ward or visit Tier II for leisure activities. Rules regarding communication services will be provided at their respective facilities. If you engage in a fight with another inmate or guard, you will be placed in solitary. If you are caught with contraband, your cell will be searched and you will be restricted to your cell for a while. Anyone have any other questions? [[Show this wimp who’s boss.]] [[What’s he in for?]] [[Keep quiet.]] Are you serious? This weakling thinks he can run this ward? You glance at the other inmates and from all the sneers, you can tell they’re thinking the same thing. You’d better hurry and show him you’re not to be messed with before someone else does. [[Shove him.]]Who are you asking? A glance at the nearby guards tells you they’re not going to do anything even if you beat this guy to a pulp. This is gonna be a piece of cake. Emil’s smile has changed to a helpless one. Does he really think you’re not going to beat him up? [[Throw him a punch to show him you’re serious.]]You throw a punch to show him you’re serious. Which is when you feel pain in your jaw and the sudden smack of the cold hard floor. [[Shit, did that Emil just throw you at the wall?]]You barely saw him move. No way, it had to be one of the guards. The throbbing in your head is keeping you from thinking straight. The other inmates are staring at you with wide eyes. Damn, Emil pulled a fast one on you; you just [[set yourself up to be the example]].Emil speaks again with that annoyingly perky tone of his, “Now now, I am rehabilitated, but if I were you, I wouldn’t do that again. Wouldn’t want Graystone to start slicing people up again...no, we definitely wouldn’t want that.” These are the last words you hear before you black out. [[Why not?]] [[Maybe the determined guy will know.->Determined]] [[Ask the shifty-eyed guy.->Shifty]]“Why should I tell you?” Or so he says, but he looks at you gleefully like he wants you to ask more. He used to be a menace but thanks to this place, he’s been able to help lots of people get back on their feet.” [[I see what you mean.]] [[There is no way that’s normal.]]"Right, he used to commit some pretty gruesome murders but these days, he's friendly enough." [[I see what you mean.]] “Why should I tell you?” [[Because I’ve got a good eye. I spotted you and you obviously know what you’re doing. You could use someone like that.]] [[Because, like you said, it won’t matter in the end.]]He doesn’t seem to notice that he’s rubbing his hands together gleefully. “Truth is, there’s going to be a prison break in 120 days. Do you want in?” [[Yeah.]] [[Seems risky.->Nah, I’m good.]]Hey, you’re alright. You know, you seem like a trustworthy guy. Can I trust you with some confidential information? [[Yeah, sure thing.]] [[Thanks but I’m good.]]"It's perfectly normal. What he was like before is what's not normal." He doesn't seem to want to talk anymore. You’re in the slammer, convict. That’s all you need to know.” The guard’s voice is somewhat disturbing to hear, as it comes out of a speaker in the helmet that makes it sound male, female, and robotic at the same time. The resultant bizarre mix of tones makes it impossible to tell what kind of person might reside inside the armor. [[Glance at the guard on the right.]] [[Keep quiet.->Changing Room]]“Shut the fuck up and turn on your voice masker, you fucking idiot,” the other guard snaps. “Just what the fuck do you think all this hardware shit, as you put it, is for? Administration messed up his file and his bracers were only calibrated for moderate psychic ability. Eight months ago a guard sneezed near him with his masker off, and the bastard possessed him. Killed thirty-seven people.” “I didn’t know,” said the chatty guard--his voice now matching his partner’s. “Damn right you didn’t.” [[Keep quiet.->Changing Room]]
